WHO AM THEY?!

CHARLIE ORMROD

When not playing music with AOTV, Garry is a writer who has published two science fiction books (with a third on the way), and has written over a dozen broadcast jokes and sketches for BBC Radio 4 Extra.  He continues to write and record music in various guises both solo and in collaboration with other local musicians, including his former band 'Gravity Dave', a punk-rock-indie band which was a graduation from it's former iteration, a punk band named 'Smelt', for which Garry played keyboards.  Once upon a time, Garry was part of a group that organised 5 consecutive years of the 'Summer Jam' festival in Leek, Staffordshire, and once got horrendously drunk with Craig Charles.

AOTV Question Time

What was the last album you bought?

The last album I bought was actually 'Appetite For Destruction' by Guns'N'Roses as I wanted to load it onto my MP3 player.  It is one of those albums that originally got me into playing bass, and brought my music world crashing to its sha na na na na na knees when I first heard it.  I've matured since then, but still love it.

Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near?

Because I have a rare condition where I am actually made of cuttlefish bones and they use me to sharpen their beaks.

What would you be doing if you weren't doing this?

Editing my next book or eating an apple, or both.

What's the strangest thing anyone's ever said to you, online or in person?

An old man drove past me on his mobility scooter and shouted "By the rivers of Babylon!" at me with a big grin on his face.  I said "Yeah," and laughed.  I don't know why, I was just being polite..

What do you love most about playing music?

My favourite thing about playing music, like all creativity, is not having the foggiest idea where inspiration/flare comes from sometimes, but riding it out when it happens.
