A Gust Of Wind

So that was Lymelight!  I was there from Saturday to Monday, and it was another excellent event, and saw superb sets from Jay Johnson, Kez Liddle, Don’t Call Me Ishmael, Dirty Vertebrae, Sherry Counsellors, Thieves Asylum, Merrym’n, and more besides.  The weather was as good as it’s ever been for Lymelight Festival, and it gave a lot to the good vibes of the event.

On Saturday by about 5pm, the crowd was big in numbers, which I was hoping would be a strong portent for the following day, and I’m glad I wasn’t let down by that.  I did also wind up getting interviewed on BBC Stoke at about quarter to nine that evening.

On Sunday, I came to watch everything in the early afternoon, and was kinda like the White Rabbit, checking my phone and being the generally anxious man that I am in the run-up to a gig.  I’m never nervous about playing, but I do get nervous that something will go wrong before the gig happens.  I’m never fully relaxed until everyone’s in the room!

We had a great show, we rattled through the seven songs in a lively fashion, in front of a solid, lively crowd.  The shadows had drawn over the town a little by this point, so we had a hearty mix of sun-worshippers and and people hiding in shadow.

It was a pretty smooth set, apart from when a cloth drape fell from the side, causing a gust of wind to grace the stage and scatter Ash’s set notes across it.  (I was quite grateful for the breeze, as it was very warm at this point.)  Props should go to Dan Bailey on drums and Ash Simpson on lead guitar (both from King Kula), whom Duncan drafted in a mere fortnight prior, and who delivered a pounding, swirling noise after three fun and productive rehearsals.  We’re having a great time working with them.
